A Perfect Love & Retreat Messages
Nothing makes someone evaluate a relationship quite like trying to pick the perfect card, right? Father’s Day is no exception. But standing in the card aisle, one phrase kept coming up as I perused my options: I know I don’t say it enough…
I know I don’t say it enough, but you’re a great dad.
I know I don’t say it enough, but I love you.
I know I don’t say it enough, but thank you for everything you do.
Fathers are expected to know things, to fix things, and to provide things. But no matter how great our earthly fathers are (or were; and if your relationship with your father is less than great, let this truth comfort you), the only Father perfect in knowledge and ability is our Heavenly Father.
He knows you perfectly. He adores you infinitely. And He cares for you sufficiently.
He is a father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5) and knows what we need before we ask (see Matthew 6:8). He fills us with good things and satisfies our desires (see Psalm 103:5).
He is present and powerful as well as loving and faithful. He is everything we've ever longed for and everything we never knew we needed.
His heart toward us is one of compassion (Psalm 103:13), love (1 John 3:1), and generosity (Matthew 7:11).
What would Hallmark say in light of His love? Are we saying it enough, "God, I love you"?
And do our lives proclaim, “God, you love them”?
The apostle Paul put it this way, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us…” (Ephesians 5:1-2a).
Whether this day brings you joy, sorrow, heartache, or regret, you have a Father whose love for you is perfect. Having received the Father’s love, we are now free to show His love. Not by picking just the right card but by saying often, "Lord, I love You and through me, Your child, would You love them?”
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1).
With much love in Christ,
Cara Blondo
